How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Cook millet with extra liquid until very soft, then blend or mash into a thick, smooth porridge. Thin it with breast milk, formula, or water to a spoonable texture.

Cut:

Thick smooth porridge, no loose dry grains.

9-12 months

Prep:

Serve soft cooked millet a little thicker so your baby can scoop it, or press it into small soft patties or balls that are easy to pick up.

Cut:

Thick scoopable millet, or soft patties about finger-width.

12-18 months

Prep:

Offer fluffy cooked millet as a side, or mixed into soft dishes with vegetables, fruit, or yogurt. Skip added salt and sugar.

Cut:

Served fluffy or in soft small spoonfuls.
