Usually introduced around 6 months
Whole mandarin segments are a choking shape. Always remove the seeds and the tough membrane and cut the flesh into small pieces.
Peel and pull the segments apart. Remove every seed and the tough white pith and membrane, then break the soft inner flesh into small pieces or mash it. The soft, peeled flesh is easy for early eaters to manage.
De-seeded, de-membraned flesh in pieces about Β½ inch (1 cm), or mashed.
Keep peeling, de-seeding and removing the membrane from each segment. As the pincer grasp develops, offer small soft pieces of the inner flesh for self-feeding.
Small de-seeded, de-membraned pieces, about Β½ inch (1 cm).
Continue removing seeds and tough membrane and serve the soft flesh in small bite-size pieces. Keep pieces small and supervise while eating.
